Bikeway Village is situated along a key transition point along Bayshore Bikeway and San Diego. With beautiful views of the water and the city of San Diego, it provides an informal entrance to Imperial Beach. This project consisted of transforming two large existing warehouse buildings to create a welcoming, functional rest stop for cyclists, travelers and locals. A host of amenities are oriented towards the bay and the bikeway, including a large outdoor deck with formal and informal seating, restored native wetland planting and landscaped retention basin, bicycle parking, water bottle refill station, trail-side rest stop and public restrooms. The project is intended to be the “greenest development” on the bay by using solar power cells on the roofing, paint and finishes that have minimal pollutants, and by encouraging bike transit.
