Decorative Steel Cross Installed at Mater Dei Catholic Church
Crews have installed the decorative cross on the bell tower of Mater Dei Catholic Church in Chula Vista. The steel cross is 44 feet tall and weighs 4,000 pounds. It is constructed of steel plates with a hand hammered finish welded to structural steel tubes. The top of the cross sits at 62 feet above the ground. When complete, this 17,420-square-foot, 1-story, wood-frame and stucco worship building will have a seating capacity of 1,000, as well as other ancillary and supporting spaces. The site development scope of work includes modifications to a small portion of the existing surface parking lot, paved courtyards, walks, ramps, landscaping and irrigation as well as required grading, drainage and utility improvements.
