Supervisor Cox, Mayor Dedina to Break Ground on Bikeway Village Project in Imperial Beach
Imperial Beach, CA – County Supervisor Greg Cox, Mayor Serge Dedina and city leaders will break ground Monday on the Bikeway Village project, a scenic rest area and refreshment spot next to the Bayshore Bikeway in Imperial Beach.
The groundbreaking will be held Monday, January 25, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. at 536 13th Street in Imperial Beach.
“Bikeway Village will be just steps, or should we say spokes, away from the Bayshore Bikeway, providing bicyclists a place to rest, get refreshments and enjoy the views of the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge just across the way,” said County Supervisor Greg Cox, who represents the area.
The Bikeway Village project is a collaboration between Studio E Architects and landLAB. The project is situated along a key transition point along Bayshore Bikeway, and provides an informal entrance to Imperial Beach.
The project transforms two large existing warehouse buildings creating a welcoming, functional rest stop for bikers, travelers and locals. A host of amenities are oriented towards the bay and the bikeway, including a large outdoor deck with formal and informal seating, restored native wetland planting and landscaped retention basin, bicycle parking, water bottle refill station, trail-side rest stop and public restrooms.
TSA Construction is hosting the groundbreaking ceremony.
